HMS Summer Reading

The Summer Book Challenge is a personal challenge for each student - not a contest or competition between students or classes. We are hoping that students stretch themselves as readers and increase their competence, confidence and reading motivation through their daily participation in our reading community. Reading choices should be student driven. ALL materials are a choice! It could be a magazine, chapter book, national park guide book, DVD instruction manual, anything!

We are implementing the Summer Book Challenge because of these core beliefs:

  • Everybody reads! Everybody wins!

  • Strong readers have lots of reading experiences that will help make a good, all-around reader.

  • There’s the “right book” for you out there somewhere. Let’s find it!

  • We believe what you read is YOUR choice.

  • Your reading life matters.

There are several programs to access eBooks to read all summer long!

First, students are encouraged to read at least three SCJR nominees in order to vote on their favorite title in the spring of 2024.  Many nominees are available via your BCSD SORA account and accessed through Classlink.

Book trailers for the nominees are available HERE
